Site cuts explained: getting your block ready to build

Before a slab goes down, the block has to be cut and benched to the right levels. Get it right and the whole build runs smoothly. Get it wrong and you pay for it later.

What a site cut actually is

We shape your block to the engineer's levels, cutting into the high side and filling the low side to create a flat, compacted pad ready for the slab.

What drives the cost

  • Slope. A flat block is quick. A steep hinterland block needs more cut, more fill and more care.
  • Access. If the machines can get in easily, it is faster.
  • Spoil. Carting excess soil away costs more than spreading it on site.
  • Rock. Hit rock and it slows things down.

Why it pays to do it right

A poorly prepped pad leads to cracked slabs and drainage problems. A proper cut, compacted and to level, is the foundation of a sound build.
